Discover the Technologies Behind Our
4-Treatment Protocol For Peyronie’s Disease
Focused Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
Extracorporeal Focused Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) uses high-energy acoustic waves with an energy transfer of 1.24 mJ/mm2, this treatment breaks down Peyronie’s plaque effectively.
Unlike standard shockwave treatments offered by many clinics in the UK, which use a lower energy transfer of 0.54, our advanced high-powered technology delivers superior results.
MansMatters is the national leader is this therapy and own 6 out of 7 of these high-powered Shockwave Therapy devices based in the UK.
This treatment helps in achieving:
- Stronger, firmer erections for longer periods
- Increased blood flow to the penis
- Removal of plaque from the blood vessels in the penis
- Repairs damaged blood vessels in the penis
Electromagnetic Transduction Therapy (EMTT)
The combination of Shockwave Therapy and EMTT creates a powerful dual-action approach to treating Peyronie’s disease. While Shockwave Therapy works to create and revitalise blood vessels, improving overall blood flow, EMTT takes the healing process to a microscopic level.
Think of Shockwave Therapy as building and repairing the highways (blood vessels), and EMTT as supercharging all the vehicles (cells) travelling on those highways. EMTT’s intense magnetic field works within each blood vessel, optimising cellular function and accelerating nutrient transfer between cells.
When these treatments are combined, patients benefit not only from millions of new and enhanced blood vessels created by the shockwave treatment, but also from the turbo-charged cellular activity within each of those vessels. This dual-level approach – targeting both the blood vessel network and the cellular activity within it – helps explain why many patients experience such significant improvements in their condition.
NanoVi® Exo Therapy
The Nano Vi Exo technology represents a groundbreaking advancement in treating Peyronie’s disease, and our clinic is proud to be the only facility in the UK offering this innovative treatment alongside Shockwave and EMTT therapies. This unique technology specifically targets oxidative stress – a key underlying factor in both Peyronie’s disease and erectile dysfunction that is often overlooked in traditional treatments.
By reducing oxidative stress, Nano Vi Exo helps protect and repair the endothelial cells lining blood vessels and the smooth muscle tissue in the Corpora Cavernosa (the chambers responsible for erections). This is crucial because oxidative stress can lead to the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which not only damages these vital tissues but can also contribute to the development of fibrosis – the hallmark of Peyronie’s disease.
While this technology has proven highly successful in America, with over 9,000 machines in use, our clinic stands alone in bringing this advanced treatment option to UK patients, offering a comprehensive approach that goes beyond standard therapies to address the condition at its cellular level.
Photoactivation Therapy
Photoactivation is beneficial for Peyronie’s Disease and Erectile Dysfunction treatment and is used as part of our 4-treatment protocol. It has been proven to:
- Enhance cellular energy and repair
- Improve collagen breakdown
- Increase blood flow
- Increase vascular health
- Tissue regeneration
- Stimulate natural healing
Photoactivation improves blood circulation in the pelvic region promoting better vascular health and enhanced tissue repair. It helps enhance erectile performance, firmness and overall tissue function by boosting cellular energy.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Peyronie’s disease can develop when scar tissue forms inside the penis. This scar tissue is often linked to minor injury or repeated strain, which may happen during sexual activity, particularly if the penis is bent, knocked or put under pressure.
In some cases, trauma may come from a sports injury, accident or direct impact to the genital area. The body’s healing response can sometimes lead to plaque forming within the penile tissue, which may then cause curvature, narrowing, indentation, discomfort or changes during erection.
Some men may have a higher risk of developing Peyronie’s disease. Risk factors can include diabetes, smoking, age-related tissue changes, family history, and connective tissue conditions such as Dupuytren’s contracture.
Peyronie’s disease is not always caused by one clear event. For many men, symptoms appear gradually and may become more noticeable over time.
You should seek advice from a men’s health specialist if you notice changes in the shape, feel or function of your penis, particularly during erection.
Signs that may suggest Peyronie’s disease include:
- A curve or bend when erect
- Shortening of the penis
- Narrowing or indentation
- Pain during erection
- Softer erections than usual
- Difficulty with intercourse
- A firm lump or plaque under the skin
Early assessment can be helpful, as Peyronie’s disease may change over time. A healthcare professional can check for scar tissue, assess the degree of curvature, discuss symptoms, and rule out other possible causes.
In many cases, diagnosis can be made through a physical examination and a discussion about your symptoms. The clinician may examine the penis when it is not erect, feel for areas of scar tissue, and measure length or curvature where appropriate. These details can help track whether the condition is stable, improving or progressing.
Peyronie’s disease is a condition where fibrous scar tissue, known as plaque, develops inside the penis. This plaque can cause the penis to bend, curve, narrow or change shape during erection.
The condition most commonly affects men over 40, but it can happen at any adult age. Some men first notice symptoms after sexual activity or a minor injury, while others develop symptoms gradually without a clear cause.
The plaque can form in different areas of the penis and may sometimes be felt through the skin as a firm or tender area. For some men, Peyronie’s disease causes mild changes. For others, the curvature or discomfort can make sex difficult, painful or distressing.
Peyronie’s disease may be linked with erectile difficulties, reduced confidence and anxiety around intimacy. Many men delay seeking support, but professional advice can help you understand what is happening and what options may be available.
Peyronie’s disease does not always go away on its own. In some men, symptoms remain stable. In others, the condition may worsen over time. Speaking to a specialist early can help you get a clearer diagnosis and discuss treatment options suited to your symptoms.
Before your appointment, we will ask about your medical history, current symptoms and any medication you take. This helps us assess whether treatment may be suitable for you.
Please let us know if you have any medical conditions, bleeding disorders, implants, recent surgery, or if you take blood-thinning medication.
Before attending your appointment, we recommend washing the intimate area and trimming excess hair if needed. This helps make the treatment area easier to assess and keeps the appointment as comfortable as possible.
Peyronie’s disease is named after François Gigot de la Peyronie, a French surgeon who described the condition in 1743.
He reported cases where scar tissue caused curvature of the penis during erection. The condition has since become known as Peyronie’s disease, or PD.
Earlier references to similar symptoms date back to the 16th century, but La Peyronie’s description is the one most closely linked with the modern medical name.
Shockwave therapy may be discussed as a non-surgical treatment option for some men with Peyronie’s disease.
It uses targeted acoustic waves applied to the treatment area. The aim is to support symptom management, particularly where discomfort, plaque-related changes or erectile function concerns are present.
Suitability depends on your symptoms, medical history, stage of the condition and clinical assessment. A consultation is needed before treatment can be recommended.
Most men do not experience visible marks or bruising after shockwave therapy.
Mild redness or sensitivity may occur in some cases, but this is usually temporary. If you have a bleeding disorder, take blood-thinning medication, or bruise easily, please tell the clinician before treatment.
Most men tolerate shockwave therapy well.
You may feel mild discomfort or sensitivity during treatment, particularly around tender areas, but it should not be severe. The intensity can usually be adjusted to keep the session as comfortable as possible.
No Peyronie’s disease treatment works for every patient.
Results can vary depending on the severity of the curvature, how long the condition has been present, plaque formation, erectile function, general health and the stage of the condition.
A consultation helps assess whether shockwave therapy or another treatment route may be suitable for your symptoms.
We treat men aged 18 and over.
If you are experiencing symptoms of Peyronie’s disease, erectile changes or concerns about penile curvature, we can arrange a confidential consultation to discuss your options.
